The LLBC Reflects on the Senseless Shooting of Police Officers in Baton Rouge


Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The La Legislative Black Caucus (LLBC), reflects on and mourns the recent tragedy due to a senseless shooting of Baton Rouge Police Officers – resulting in 3 dead and 3 injured.

This unnecessary loss of life, has left the city of Baton Rouge and our entire state with heavy hearts. We mourn with the families of the police officers who lost their lives and hurt with those families of the officers injured due to this devastating tragedy.

State Representative Joseph Bouie, Jr., Chairman of the LLBC stated, “We are deeply saddened by the killings and injuries that occurred on Sunday. As a community we must unite and demonstrate our value for life of all people regardless of race, class, gender or socioeconomic status”.

The LLBC will continue to pray for peace and will be more vigilant as we work with local, state and federal officials. Going forward, we will work to insure that future policies and present investigations result in decisions and practices that prevent future occurrences of this type of tragedy.

With these thoughts in mind, the 33 members of the La Legislative Black Caucus will be in continuous prayer for the entire state of Louisiana, city of Baton Rouge, the families of the fallen police officers and those injured by this violent shooting incident.
